accusations
09.14.04 (5:22 pm)   [edit]

Satan accuses God's people of doing wrong (Zechariah 3:1)
Then the angel showed me Jeshua the hight priest standing before the angel of the Lord.  Satan was there at the angel's right hand, accusing Jeshua of many things.

Jesus was falsely accused (Matthew 26:59-60)
Inside, the leading priests and the entire high council were trying to find witnesses who would lie about Jesus, so they could put him to death.

Christians' sins are forgiven (Colossians 1:22)
yet now he has brought you back as his friends.  He has done this through his death on the cross in his own human body.  As a result, he has brought you into the very presence of God, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.

Accusations against church leaders must come from more than one person (1 Timothy5:19)
Do not listen to complaints against an elder unless there are two or three witnesses to accuse him.

Satan is known as the Accuser (Revelation 12:10)
Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens,

"It has happened at last--the salvation and power and kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ!  For the Accuser has been thrown down to earth--the one who accused our brothers and sisters before our God day and night.

accountability
09.11.04 (8:18 pm)   [edit]

God will judge our work (2 Chronicles 19:5-10)
He appointed judges throughout the nation in all the fortified cities, and he gave them these instructions:  "Always think carefully before pronouncing judgment.  Remember that you do not judge to please people but to please the Lord.  He will be with you when you render the verdict in each case that comes before you.  Fear the Lord and judge with care, for the Lord our God does not tolerate perverted justice, partiality, or the taking of bribes."

Jehoshaphat appointed some of the Levites and priests and clan leaders in Israel to serve as judges in Jerusalem for cases concerning both the law of the Lord and civil disputes.  These were his instructions to them:  "You must always act in the fear of the Lord, with integrity and with undivided hearts.  Whenever a case comes to you from fellow citizens in an outlying town, whether a murder case or some other violation of God's instructions, laws, commands, or regulations, you must warn them not to sin against the Lord, so that his anger will not come against you and them.  Do this and you will not be guilty."

Sin has consequences (Ezekiel 18:20)
The one who sins is the one who dies.  The child will not be punished for the parent's sins, and the parent will not be punished for the child's sins.  Righteous people will be rewared for their own goodness, and wicked people will be punished for their own wickedness.

We are accountable for every word that we speak (Matthew 12:36)
And I tell you this, that you must give an account on judgment day of every idle word you speak.

Confronting others with their sins should be done in private (Matthew 18:15)
"If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the fault.  If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back.

We should hold each other accountable (Luke 17:3)
I am warning you!  If another believer sins, rebuke him; then if he repeats, forgive him.

We are accountable for what we believe (John 3:18)
There is no judgment awaiting those who trust him.  But those who do not trust him have already been judged for not believing in te only Son of God.

God holds Christians accountable (Romans 14:11-12)
For the Scriptures say,

" 'As surely as I live,' says the Lord,
'every knee will bow to me
and every tongue will confess allegiance to God.' "

Yes, each of us will have to give a personal account to God.

God will reward Christians for their good deeds (1 Corinthians 3:8 )
The one who plants and the one who waters work as a team with the same purpose.  Yet they will be rewarded individually, according to their own work.

God will examine our actions (2 Corinthians 5:10)
For we must all stand before Christ to be judged.  We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in our bodies.

Accountability should help others (Galations 6:1)
Dear brothers and sisters, if another Chrisitan is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path.  And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.

abuse
09.11.04 (6:39 pm)   [edit]

God cares about minorities (Exodus 22:21)
Do not repress foreigners in any way.  Remember, you yourselves were once foreigners in the land of Egypt.

God protects those who are helpless (Psalm 12:5)
The Lord replies, "I have seen violence done to the helpless,
and I have heard the groans of the poor.
Now I will rise up to rescue them,
as they have longed for me to do."

Jesus was abused (Matthew 26:67-68)
Then they spit in Jesus' face and hit him with their fists.  And some slapped him, saying, "Prophesy to us, you Messiah!  Who hit you that time?"

Abuse has no place in family relationships (Ephesians 5:21-6:4)
And further, you will submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.  You wives will submit to your husbands as you do to the Lord.  For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of his body, the church; he gave his life to be her Savior.  As the church submits to Christ, so you wives must submit to your husbands in everything.

And you husbands must love your wives with the same love Christ showed the church.  He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by baptism and God's word.  He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish.  Instead, she will be holy and without fault.  In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies.  For a man is actually loving himself when he loves his wife.  No one hates his own body but lovingly cares for it, just as Christ cares for his body, which is the church.  And we are his body.

As the scriptures say, "A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one."*  This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one.  So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Children, obey your parents, because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do.  "Honor your father and mother."  This is the first of the Ten Commandments that ends with a promise.  And this is the promise:  If you honor your father and mother, "you will live a long life, full of blessing."**

And now a word to you fathers.  Don't make your children angry by the way you treat them.  Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction approved by the Lord.

abortion

God cares for the unborn (Exodus 21:22-25)
Now suppose two people are fighting, and in the process, they hurt a pregnant woman so her child is born prematurely.  If no further harm results, then ther person responsible must pay damages in the amount the woman's husband demands and the judges approve.  But if any harm results, then the offender must be punished according to the injury.  If the result is death, the offender must be executed.  If an eye is injured, injure the eye of the person who did it.  If a tooth gets knocked out, knock out the tooth of the person who did it.  Similarly, the payment must be hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.

We should protect the helpless (Psalm 82:3-4)
Give fair judgment to the poor and the orphan;
uphold the rights of the or the oppressed and the destitute.

Rescue the poor and the helpless;
deliver them from the grasp of evil people.

Children are from God (Psalm 127:3)
Children are a gift from the LORD;
they are a reward from Him.

God forms every child (Psalm 139:13-16)
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother's womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous--and how well I know it.
You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.

God plans the future of every child (Jeremiah 1:5)
I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb.  Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my spokesman to the world.
